The Task
CHM files are commonly used for program help files even though they can carry viruses and trojans and are thus often blocked by the standard settings of security software. The HTML format requires too many individual files (text, images, etc.). And the HLP format, introduced in Windows 3.1, no longer reflects the current state of the art. PDF files, which offer a good alternative, require a separate reader. In addition, Adobe Reader offers no possibility to display context-specific help integrated in the document.
