San Diego, CA, USA, May 14, 2010 (PRESSbooth.ORG) -- Leaders from numerous arts organizations in San Diego joined together to announce today the launch of Arts Month San Diego/September 2010. Arts Month San Diego will unite a broad array of the city's arts and performance entities under one marketing umbrella. A diverse cross-section of arts and culture programs will be showcased throughout the month with participating galleries, artist-run initiatives, public art museums, performing arts events, and festivals. The month’s events will be kicked-off at the Opening Night of ART SAN DIEGO Contemporary Art Fair on Thursday, Sept. 2nd, 2010.
Major events include ART SAN DIEGO Contemporary Art Fair, First Annual San Diego Fine Art Society Annual Art Awards, ArtWalk by the Bay, Art of Photography Show, San Diego Film Festival, and a world-class exhibition organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, Downtown called “Viva La Revolucion” which will feature the work of 20 world-class street artists to include: Akay (Sweden), Banksy (U.K.), Blu (Italy), Mark Bradford (U.S.), William Cordova (U.S.), Date Farmers (U.S.), Stephan Doitschinoff [CALMA] (Brazil), Dr. Lakra (Mexico), Dzine (U.S.), David Ellis (U.S.), FAILE (U.S.), Shepard Fairey (U.S.), Invader (France), JR (France), Barry McGee (U.S.), Ryan McGinness (U.S.), Moris (Mexico), Os Gemeos (Brazil), Swoon (U.S.), and Vhils (Portugal).
“It is anticipated that these events alone will draw over 200,000 cultural visitors to San Diego in September”, Ann Berchtold, Arts Month San Diego organizer commented, “San Diego is a hothouse of culture and creativity. Arts Month San Diego will encourage residents and visitors to explore the City’s vast cultural offerings and seek new cultural experiences: from visiting a local gallery or museum little known to them, to catching a show at a small theater, to getting a taste of a multi-cultural festival. Through community outreach, local promotional tickets, hotel discounts, and a viral word-of-mouth and print and radio campaign, we are urging San Diegan’s to enjoy the best the art world has to offer without leaving San Diego, and also encouraging non-San Diegans to come for a memorable cultural immersion."
