Making Summer Travel Easier for Diabetics

Fashion - Lifestyle - Entertainmentarun writes
Insulin worries stop many from enjoying outdoor vacations and activities because there are no refrigerators in nature, and as most diabetics know, without ice packs or refrigeration, insulin cannot remain stable for very long. This is why SeekWellness LLC is providing travel tips for diabetics and offering a new product, FRIO, that is designed to keep insulin cool without ice packs or refrigeration.

Concord, NH, USA, July 29, 2010 (PRESSbooth.ORG) -- The thought of summer travel, including camping, hiking and long flights can be stressful for the estimated 14 million people in the United States who have been diagnosed with diabetes. FRIO is now available in the SeekWellness.com store.

The first step in preparing for a trip is to plan ahead. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' National Diabetes Education Program, you should see your health care provider for a check-up four-to-six weeks before your trip to make sure your A1C, blood pressure and cholesterol are under control before you leave.

While traveling, make sure to wear identification explaining that you have diabetes. Make sure it is written in the language of any countries you are visiting, and learn how to say phrases like “I have diabetes” or “doctor” in that language as well. Tell at least one person you are traveling with about your diabetes, and check blood glucose often. Changes in diet and activity levels can affect your glucose level.

Make sure you plan your meals and medication carefully, taking factors such as time-zone changes and flight itineraries and delays into your plan. Make special arrangements with your airline for a diabetic meal choice or supplemental food. Make sure to always carry your medication and supplies with you so you don’t risk losing them in your luggage. Always pack more than you think you need.

Many travelers struggle with finding appropriate carrying cases to keep insulin cool during their travel, or while camping or hiking. FRIO is a cooling wallet designed for use when ice packs or refrigeration are not an option. It activates by simply placing FRIO in cold water for 5-10 minutes . Afterwards, it stays cold and keeps insulin cool and viable for a minimum of 45 hours.

According to a SeekWellness.com customer, "The FRIO has been a god-send to me. With the FRIO, I no longer need to worry about freezing an icepack when I travel or being without refrigeration in an emergency. I just put it in water for five minutes and am good to go. It's tough enough being an insulin-dependent diabetic but the FRIO sure makes it much easier."

FRIO has helped many insulin-dependent diabetics travel and enjoy many activities they were not able to do prior to finding this amazing product. To learn more or to purchase FRIO, please visit http://www.seekwellness.com/LPs/frio-insulin-cooling-pouch-for-diabetics.htm.
