The organizer of Bangalore IT.biz 2008 today announced that the ‘Rural IT Quiz’ organized by Dept. of IT, BT, Science & Technology, Govt of Karnataka in partnership with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has received huge participation of around 12 lakh students in the program this year.
Bangalore, Karnataka, India, November 4, 2008 (PRESSbooth.ORG) -- This makes it one of the biggest IT Quiz programs for rural students in India. The Rural IT Quiz is conceptualized and designed to enhance IT awareness among rural students across the State of Karnataka.
The stage is now set for the finals of the Rural IT Quiz at BangaloreIT.biz on 7th November at the Palace Grounds, Bangalore, scheduled to start at 4 PM. The event is being conducted for the ninth consecutive year.
The first round of the quiz was conducted on 10th September followed by the District Round on 4th October. The programme gathered momentum in October with top 50 teams from each district participating in the Regional Level Finals conducted across 6 districts in Karnataka from 10th– 21st October. These Regional Finals were conducted at Gulbarga, Dharwad, Davangere, Tumkur, Udupi and Mysore.
The six teams who have qualified for the State Finals are : Kashinath Handiganur & Manjunath Malipatil – Vidyabharati High School Talikoti, Muddebihal Taluk Bijapur District; Shashank S. Meti & Prabhu B. Viratimath – St Annes Convent High School Bagalkot; Devrath ND & Surya V – MKET PU College Harihar Taluk, Davanagere District; Vittal R.Pai & Madhusudan S – Kalpatru PU College Tiptur Taluk, Tumkur District; Prashanth Pai & Snehith Periera – SMS PU College Brahmavar Taluk, Udupi District ; Rakshitha HM & Shravya R – Carmel Convent Mandya.
The six teams will contest for the State championship. TCS has offered 3 cash prizes of Rs 75,000 (I prize), Rs 35,000(II prize) and Rs 20,000(III prize). The quizmaster for the event is Giri Balasubramaniam.
For the first time , the 2nd & 3rd place winners of the Regional Finals will also receive cash prizes of Rs.5,000/- & Rs.4,000/- each respectively from KEONICS ( a GOK undertaking) of Department of IT,BT amd S & T, at the State Finals. The five students who contributed to the 3rd edition of IT quiz book – “Think About IT”- would also receive cash prizes of Rs.4000/-each from KEONICS.
