Los Angeles, CA, USA, December 16, 2008 (PRESSbooth.ORG) -- Acaiberry.org, a customer-focused information site, launched today. This new website details the purity and effectiveness of the top-selling brands of acai berry supplements, offering a free database of acai berry reviews and analysis.
"We have a sole purpose: to educate and inform the customer," said Johanna Yardley, a content specialist and key member of the Acaiberry.org team. "Acai berries are the newest tool in the battle for weight loss. The sudden popularity of acai berry supplements has led to the creation of literally hundreds of new products. You wouldn't believe how many of them are fake."
Yardley explained the boom in demand for acai berries. "Acai comes from the Amazon rain forest. A lot of the suppliers are mom-and-pop farms. They don't have a lot of flexibility in their harvesting schedules. Now there are hundreds of supplement manufacturers in the United States and around the world screaming for acai berries, but the Amazon's already producing at maximum volume. To make matters worse, a lot of the acai berry producers are working in an ecologically-friendly, sustainable way. That's great for the planet but lowers productivity."
The huge demand from consumers, and from manufacturers, can lead to acai berry supplements that use small amounts of acai and lots of filler. "We've seen acai berry supplements that claim to be pure, and contain less than 3% acai," Yardley said. "That's just not fair to the consumer."
In order to fight this exploitation of consumers, Yardley worked to launch AcaiBerry.org to highlight the top acai berry products. "Despite the huge demand, there are still a handful of people doing the right thing -- creating real acai products that people can believe in."
Acai berries are a staple of many native Amazon tribes. The berries contain omega-3 oils and contain twice the antioxidant density of the blueberry. Many health benefits are reported from regular consumption of acai berries, including increased energy, decreased cholesterol levels, weight loss, increased blood flow and detoxification. In recent years, acai has become famous through the multi-level marketing program associated with Mona Vie (a blended fruit juice that contains acai berry). Acai went mainstream when top television programs, including The Today Show and Oprah, profiled acai's healing powers.
"There is a definite connection between acai berry and weight loss," Yardley stated with a confident nod. "I've lost eighteen pounds in the last three months.
