Cafe Prevention's New Alcohol Awareness Materials

Advertising - Promotioncafeprev writes
The latest underage drinking prevention resources from Café Prevention can help influence what happens with regard to underage drinking in communities.

Springfield, MO, USA, November 16, 2009 (PRESSbooth.ORG) -- CafePrevention.com announces the addition of two new alcohol awareness and prevention (http://www.cafeprevention.com) information cards – “Leave the Beer and Disappear” and “Are Your Kids Tapping Into Your Alcohol” as well as a new Alcohol Poisoning Magnet. These resources remind parents that the holidays are often a time of increased drinking among teens. The alcohol awareness material information cards and magnet tell the story of how and where teens get their alcohol, and what to do when an alcohol emergency strikes.

A majority of current underage drinkers in 2008, according to a report released by SAMHSA, reported that their last use of alcohol in the past month occurred in someone else’s home (56.2%), or in their own home (29.6%).

According to a report “Underage Drinking Use: Findings from the 2002-2006 National Surveys on Drug Use and Health”, from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), more than 40% of youth ages 12-20 who used alcohol in the past 30 days reported receiving it from an adult.

Café Prevention’s two new affordable alcohol awareness cards, suitable for mailings or to hand out, are hard hitting and eye catching – adults will get the message in a creative and engaging way. “Are Your Kids Tapping Into Your Alcohol” discusses that it is not uncommon for teens and their friends to consume a parent’s alcohol without their knowledge. During the holidays, this may become an even bigger problem as kids have more time off, and parents may have more alcoholic beverages in the home.

“Leave the Beer and Disappear” speaks to the fact that it is not uncommon for kids to gather at homes when parents are away to consume either alcohol that is in the home, or that which they may bring. Again, many parents will be gone to their own functions during the holidays, leaving teens with an increased opportunity to hold their own party without parental knowledge.

Additionally, Café Prevention’s new alcohol-poisoning magnet is popular with teens and college students, as well as with parents. With national surveys indicating up to one in five young people ages 12-20 report binge drinking, these magnets leave no doubt as to what to look for, and what to do, if alcohol poisoning is suspected. By understanding the signs and symptoms of alcohol poisoning, oftentimes parents and teens can seek help before disaster strikes.

According to SMAHSA Administrator Terry Cline Ph.D, in the report, “Underage Alcohol Use: Findings from the 2002-2006 National Surveys on Drug Use and Health,” he states, “It’s findings strongly indicate that parents and other adults can play an important role in helping influence- for better or worse- young people’s behavior with regard to underage drinking.”

The latest underage drinking prevention resources from Café Prevention can help influence what happens with regard to underage drinking in your community for the better, not only during the holidays, but all year long.
