Based on the Novel Written by Essence Bestselling Author Miasha Adapted for the Stage by Marc Holley Directed by Tiffany Bacon "Scandalous and engrossing, this debut from Miasha, shows her to be a writer to watch." -Publishers Weekly on Secret Society, the novel.
Philadelphia, PA, USA, July 25, 2008 (PRESSbooth.ORG) -- On Friday July 25th, 2008 Fifth Avenue Productions in collaboration with Essence Bestselling Author Miasha will present the theatrical adaption of Miasha's debut novel Secret Society at the Arts Bank Theatre at 601 S. Broad Street in Philadelphia starting at 8pm. The play runs for three consecutive days with four performances in total.
Adapted for the stage by Lincoln University alumni Marc Holley and directed by Temple University alumni Tiffany Bacon Secret Society the Stage Play introduces theatre goers to Celess and Tina, two hustling gold diggers whose fast-paced lifestyle came to a sudden halt when their shady past caught up with them. When the guys who are dating Celess and Tina learn that these girls are men— the dangerous game of love, money, sex, and illicit encounters will lead to tragedy.
With plans to take the production on the road and a DVD release later this summer, Miasha is determined to maximize the potential of her latest venture. "I saw what Tyler Perry was doing with his plays and the road he took to get to the big screen. For us it seemed to be the most obvious next step for my books. I feel real good about this project. One of our shows is already sold out and we haven't even advertised it yet so that's a good sign. " Miasha commented.
The ten person cast is comprised of ninety percent Philadelphia natives including leading ladies fashionista Roni Graham and songstress Lee Mekhai along with Hasan Bivins who recently completed a part in the upcoming biopic Notorious and Belito Garcia who appeared in the Harpo Production film Beloved.
The official opening night Saturday July 26th at 8pm will include a glamorous VIP Red Carpet for literary and entertainment notables from around the tri-state area. Each attendee will receive a complimentary copy of Never Enough, the sequel to Secret Society now available in bookstores nationwide, Amazon and www.miasha.com.
Due to the mature content of the show, the performance is not recommended for children under 17. For more information on tickets and show times, visit: www.myspace.com/secretsocietystageplay.
