Online backup speed increased by 80%, local cache reduced by 99%

For the past several months, NovaStor’s in-house engineering and development teams have been working to improve the file differencing technology that allows NovaBACKUP xSP to perform incremental backups. The end result was a more sophisticated method of file differencing, which ultimately improved backup speeds by an average of 80% and reduced local cache sizes by an average of 99%.
Slow backup and restore speeds over the WAN and large local cache files are often two of the most serious software problems for companies who provide backup as a service. Many backup software solutions work fine when dealing with small amounts of data, but as the amount of customer data grows, the software is not able to scale. If the backup software is not scalable, then performance decreases as the amount of data grows. This puts end user business continuity at risk in the event of data loss, as slow performance causes downtime to increase.
