New Cap-A-Rig iPhone Game App to Donate Funds

As British Petroleum's Deepwater Horizon well continues to gush oil into the Gulf of Mexico, an outraged Atlanta, Ga. couple has taken an unusual step to raise funds to help the creatures and beaches being affected by the massive "spill".

Atlanta, GA, USA, July 19, 2010 (PRESSbooth.ORG) -- As British Petroleum’s Deepwater Horizon well continues to gush oil into the Gulf of Mexico, an outraged Atlanta, Ga. couple has taken an unusual step to raise funds to help the creatures and beaches being affected by the massive "spill".

Successful business owners John and Melissa Minahan have released a new iPhone/iPad game app-appropriately called Cap-A-Rig-that ( http://www.cap-a-rig.com ) will donate 50 percent of its proceeds to help with oil spill clean-up efforts. The object of the game is to clean up as much oil as possible around the rig that is ejecting oil. John and Melissa intend to use the game to help save as many birds, fish, turtles and other creatures as possible. The Minahans-who own a home on the Gulf Coast-feel it’s their obligation to protect the oceans for their children and for other creatures that can’t speak for themselves, such as turtles, fish and birds. "We are taking a stance against BP’s failure to stop killing our oceans," said John, the creator of Cap-A-Rig.

In addition to generating funds for clean-up efforts, Cap-A-Rig’s ( http://www.cap-a-rig.com ) goal is to show what the Minahans describe as the ignorance and arrogance of BP’s ad campaign, "We will make it right." However, Melissa said: "The fish are dead; the birds are dead; and the turtles are dead. You can’t make it right."

The Cap-A-Rig app ( http://www.cap-a-rig.com ) employs the popularity of the iPhone and iPad to shine a negative spotlight on a critical and timely issue that is impacting the entire nation. Here’s how the high-end game works: The player uses his finger to drag a checker across the oil spill and clean-up as much oil as he can in 10 seconds. If the player hits a dead fish with the checker, he losses the checker. The player gets four tries. As time passes, the blue water turns black and more dead fish pop up.

Cap-A-Rig ( http://www.cap-a-rig.com ) alludes to the real-life event that unfolded when BP’s Deepwater Horizon drilling rig exploded in April. The tragedy that killed 11 crew members and caused the largest offshore oil spill in U.S. history could have been averted if the appropriate safety precautions had been taken, according to Melissa. "It is profitable for BP to drill three miles down into the water; it is not profitable for them to implement the proper safety measures to prevent an environmental disaster-which is why we are in this situation," she said."
