Third consecutive National Press Club honor for production team.
Muscatine, IA, USA, June 24, 2008 (PRESSbooth.ORG) -- A public radio documentary produced by the Stanley Foundation and KQED Public Radio has won a top 2008 National Press Club Award.
"Beyond Fear: America's Role in an Uncertain World" was awarded the National Press Club's Edwin M. Hood Award for Diplomatic Correspondence. Kristin McHugh and Keith Porter of Muscatine and Simon Marks of Washington, DC, produced the documentary.

The honor marks the third straight year a Stanley Foundation/KQED Public Radio program has earned the Edwin M. Hood Award for Diplomatic Correspondence. "24/7: The Rise and Influence of Arab Media" was awarded the same honor in 2007 and "Security Check: Confronting Today's Global Threats" took the prize in 2006.
The National Press Club, a Washington-based group comprised of nearly 4,000 members who work in journalism and communications, evaluated 203 entries in a total of 27 categories.
"Journalism is indispensable to our system of government," said Sylvia Smith, the Club's president. "Excellent journalism is a celebration of all that's good in our democracy, even when it exposes problems. The National Press Club and its contest judges are thrilled to honor the best of the best."
The awards will be formally presented at a National Press Club dinner in Washington, DC on July 14.

Released in May 2007, "Beyond Fear: America's Role in an Uncertain World" goes beyond the headlines with expert insight and field reporting from Africa, Asia, and Europe and explores new scenarios for US global leadership built on common action, trust, and hope. The program was hosted by David Brancaccio of public television's NOW. Independent journalist Jocelyn Ford also contributed to the program.
