The sixth annual Art of Photography Show, an international competition and exhibition of photographic art based in San Diego, announced today that nearly 14,000 entries were received from 67 countries – this is the largest number of countries represented to date.
San Diego, CA, USA, July 2, 2010 (PRESSbooth.ORG) -- Acclaimed judge Natasha Egan, the Associate Director and Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, spent nearly a week with the Art of Photography Show Director Steven Churchill and selected 111 images to be included in the world-class exhibition that will run August 28 to November 7, 2010 and is expected to be viewed by over 30,000 people. Even more special and significant for the Show this year is that Ms. Egan chose images from artists representing 25 countries. This is double the number of countries represented in the exhibit last year.
The Opening Reception Gala is scheduled for Saturday, August 28 from 6pm to 10pm. An estimated 1,500 people from all over the world will be in attendance, including most of the exhibiting artists. A total of $10,000 in cash awards will be presented that night to the top 15 artists chosen by Ms. Egan.
“We are thrilled to feature images by photographers from around the globe,” said Churchill. “Natasha Egan is an esteemed and highly respected museum curator. She unsurprisingly did an exquisite job selecting the finalists for our show. What patrons will see this year that is different than in years past are several ‘series’ of images. Created by nine different artists, these photographic series present in-depth story telling, each being very compelling and relevant for our time.”
The fact that the Art of Photography Show is judged by a major museum curator each year is what differentiates the competition from other competitions. Photographers rarely have the opportunity to reach these respected and influential people, which is why the show receives so many entries from world-renowned photographers.
“The Art of Photography Show is the very best photography competition among all of the competitions which were represented at the APA-LA panel, by far. You guys stand alone as being a pure high-end photography exhibition, produced with excellence and with integrity,” said Jim McHugh, APA-LA Vice Chair, Moderator of the APA-LA panel discussion 'Competitions That Count'.
