OTDR Performs Visible Fault Location

Telecommunication - VOIP - Satellitekellerly writes
Optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) performs visible fault location (VFL) and is used for the manufacture, construction and maintenance of fiber optic communication systems.

Toronto, ON, Canada, July 5, 2010 (PRESSbooth.ORG) -- GAO Fiber Optics (www.GAOFiberOptics.com) has announced the release of its handheld optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) designed for the manufacture, construction and maintenance of fiber optic communication systems. It is especially useful for Fiber-to-the-x (FTTx) network testing. It locates faults or breaks of optical fiber and measures the physical characteristics including length, transmission loss and splice loss.

This optical time-domain reflectometer, model 6416, performs visible fault location (VFL) and offers optional waveforms of 1310nm, 1550nm, 1625nm and 1490nm. It features a short event dead zone of 1.6m, a high resolution of 0.25m, 65535 sampling points and a long operating time of more than 10 hours on a single charge. This rugged OTDR provides dual USB interfaces supporting both USB stick and direct cable download to a computer via ActiveSync.
