The guaranteed review service was introduced a few months ago and it’s beginning to catch on. The founder of the site Keith “MuzikMan” Hannaleck commented “I decided that adding a guaranteed review service (10 business days), which is less than half the cost of our syndicated review service, would benefit the indie artist in getting their review expedited rather than waiting up to six months for a review and it is less out of pocket cost. It also serves as a donation to help support the site and our operating expenses.”
Generally popular magazines, online and physical formats, have a six month waiting period for unsolicited reviews. The influx of CDs and requests for digital downloads can be overwhelming for established sites and the guaranteed review service alleviates some pressure from the typical waiting routine and it benefits the artist and the publication.
Internet music zines and blogs have been flourishing and it has positioned the indie artists considerably better than 20 years ago when the major labels and radio stations controlled one large funnel coming from the same resources. Although there are advantages for the indie artist in place because of online opportunities, it also creates some fierce competition for attention from sites.
