The chief guest at the inauguration ceremony was noted poet, filmmaker and designer Mr. Muzaffar Ali,Grammy Award winner Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, inventor of the Mohan Veena and Hindustani Vocalist Ms. Madhumita Ray were the opening performers at the fest. Varchasva 2011 will culminate on 2nd October wit
h a concert featuring Bollywood playback singer Suraj Jagan of 3 Idiots, Rock On and Delhi Belly fame. Varchasva 2011 will also attempt promote lesser known art forms of India by showcasing a Gotipua performance by Bijay Sahoo’s troupe from Odisha along with hand shadowgraphy session by India’s Got Talent participants Amar Sen and Sabyasachi Sen on 1st October 2011. Varchasva 2011 attracts largest footfall among the student fests and aims to provide a common platform for the students from the IIMs, IITs, NITs, NIFTs and local colleges in Lucknow to compete and bring out the best in the cultural and sporting arena. The participants are from 28 different colleges including IIM Indore, MDI Gurgaon, S P Jain Institute Mumbai, IIFT Delhi, FMS Delhi, IMT Ghaziabad, IIM Ranchi, IIM Udaipur, IIM Rohtak, NMIMS Mumbai, IIT Kanpur and NIFT Rae Bareli. There will be a total of 16 sporting events and 16 cultural events.
All the events will be hosted in sprawling campus of IIM Lucknow which has one of the best infrastructure facilities among all B Schools in India. A mid sized online campaign with over 1600 fans on Facebook, Twitter and Youtube is also being run for Varchasva 2011. A segment of Varchasva 2011 where competitions like Online quizzes, essay writing, cartoon and movie are being organised was launched on 20th September 2011 and till date has around 12 individual winners.
